My Chiropractic Story

I was first introduced to chiropractic in 1989 while achieving a certification for massage therapy. At that time, my knowledge of chiropractic was quite limited. Very soon I was working with several chiropractors, each with their own technique and style. In a short time, I noticed a common strain; all of these doctors of chiropractic shared a common goal. They genuinely wanted to help their patients achieve a pain free life of optimum health without drugs or surgery. This was a new concept for me having grown up with the “standard” medical model.

In 1990, while continuing to work for a chiropractor, I established Natural Balance Massage in Fremont. It did not take long to notice the difference with my clients versus the chiropractic patients. The chiropractic patients healed faster and achieved an increased level of health that was clearly a result of removing the nerve interference or subluxation. I became efficient at discovering the areas of my client’s spine that would benefit from an adjustment due to these subluxations. In time, I began referring all of my clients to the chiropractor for treatment in conjunction with my care. My passion was growing for chiropractic as I observed the powerful results from chiropractic adjustments . It only seemed logical after some time of referring all my clients to the chiropractor, to work directly with the doctor and close my doors. I absolutely loved my job!

Due to the physicality of massage therapy, 25 hours a week was full time for me. Consequently, I worked part time for a parcel delivery company to make up the extra hours. In 1992, while working for the parcel delivery company, I injured my low back. Overnight I found myself a patient, no longer able to keep my body working at optimum, and suffering with a tremendous amount pain. I was on disability for a year. This experience, of being a patient, taught me so much relative to what my clients had gone through. I did not know if I would ever be able to return to do massage therapy, weight life or enjoy the many sports I had in the past. I was unable to sit for more than 20 minutes at a time. Needless to say, I was quite depressed and in a place of thinking my life, as I knew it, was over. The same as I had seen many of my clients/patients experience in the beginning of their care. There was a part of that which came true, but not how I had envisioned. In time, I was able to get back to most of those things that I enjoyed doing. I now live without pain on a daily basis. My life is quite full with physical activities which seem to feed my spirit.

The chiropractor that I worked with asked me many times if I had ever thought of becoming a chiropractor. My usual response was, “seems like a long time to go to school”. I was not quite ready to dedicate 7-8 years to become a chiropractor. As part of my rehabilitation process from the work injury, I completed a job analysis test, and was shocked when chiropractor came up as number one career choice for me. It seems my desire and passion to help others had taken me in a very different direction than I had imagined for myself. It was at this point, I discovered chiropractic was my destiny. In 1992, I sat down and developed a set of goals that would result in my becoming a doctor of chiropractic. Since that day, I have never looked back.

In December 2000, I graduated from Life Chiropractic College West. I absolutely love what I do and could not imagine doing anything else. I feel as though I have not worked for years- while chiropractic is my profession, this just does not seem like work to me.

I take tremendous pride in offering an innovative, balanced approach to help patients realize they can live a pain-free and productive life. Now, more than ever, there is a need for providers to look to the cause of people’s concerns and not just the symptoms. The body is a self-healing and self-regulating organism. Once that cause is addressed- the symptoms naturally resolve without the need for drugs or surgery. As a doctor, I am fully committed to staying cutting edge with the latest medical information and techniques in order to provide the best care possible.
